Zoom

Sugar Snack is turning three this week.

So far, we've walked on the docks, checking out boats.

Painted with cars.

Made a train through the living room

with boxes and laundry baskets.

Train lunch.

Nutella, banana, fruit loop popsicles.

What do you give a transportation-giddy guy?

I painted some zoom for his walls.
Hopefully he'll like them.

Speaking of scribbles and wall art, my art has been accepted in the juried show for the upcoming Art with Heart Auction, which raises money for our local schools. If you live in the area, I hope you'll consider going and chipping in for a great cause.

 Our favorite go-go books:

Sugar Snack is wooed by the nonfiction books
CARS Rushing! Honking! Zooming!    and
TRAINS Steaming! Pulling! Huffing!
by Patricia Hubbell, illustrated by Megan Halsey and Sean Addy.

We renewed them so many times from the library that I decided to buy the birthday boy his own copies.

I'm Dirty, by Kate and Jim McMullan

Fast Food, by Saxton Freymann and Joost Elffers
is another birthday surprise.
Maybe it will help him like veggies.

Freight Train, by Donald Crews.

A Lot of Otters, by Barbara Helen Berger

Not a Box, by Antoinette Portis.

Happy birthday to your little boy. Mine was born with cars on the brain -- and we still have quite the collection of car and train books.

Some of our favorites: Richard Scarry's many books, Go by Daniel Kirk (this one comes with a CD and is fun), and Crossing with gorgeous illos by Bagram Ibatouilline (sp?).

Congratulations on your art being selected for a show and worthy cause.

I love all the books you suggested this week. Many of them are favorites around here. I have a little boy who has been train crazy for the last 2 1/2 years. As a result we've got quite the collection of train books around here. One of my favorites is Chugga Chugga Choo Choo by Kevin Lewis. I also really like a few of the various versions of the song "Down By The Station," quite a bit. The one by Jennifer Riggs Vetter includes all sorts of transportation themes in it.

Happy birthday to your son! What a lucky boy, getting all that wonderful art--and everything else! A nutella-banana popsicle sounds good right about now. ;)

My son was also crazy about trains, cars, boats--every form of transportation. The cover of FREIGHT TRAIN always brings me back to his little guy days. One of his very, very favorite books was called TRAFFIC: A BOOK OF OPPOSITES. Oh, such nice memories... :)

Kjersten, thanks for the book ideas! I haven't seen either title, and am quite excited to hunt them down!

Dawn, your latest blog post was so especially awesome, and so kind! Thank you!
